Tao lang po — may damdamin din

Kelangan lang talagang mailabas ang tinitimpi ko

Medyo matagal-tagal na din ito

And until recently nasa denial stage lang ako

Marami sa mga kaibigan ko hindi ako maintindihan

Pero kaibigan nga sila at tinanggap ang kaeng-engan ko

Ako naman ang talagang nagpapatakbo ng buhay ko

Kaya’t kung anuman ang kapalpakan na nangyari

Ako lang at wala nang iba pang dapat sisihin

Lately, may nangyari nanaman at dun ako napaisip

Kasalanan ko nga dahil sa actuations ko

Nabibigyan ko na pala sya ng “power” over me

Ansakit pala lalo pa’t tapat naman ang love ko

Mas lalong masakit kung pakiramdam mo eh tae ka na lang sa kanya

Matagal kong pinagisipan ito

I don’t deserve this

And hindi sya deserving ng katapatan ko

So here goes…

I take back whatever “power” I gave that person over me

And I claim that I am a good person

And goodness begets goodness

Time to let go

Time to love myself again

For the past weeks stressed na stressed ako

Magkahalong concerns sa career, friendships at love life ang ininda ko

Hindi ako nagpapahalata pero tumatumbling talaga ang emotions ko

Maayos ko namang napatakbo ang concerns sa trabaho

As far as my love life is concerned blinank-out ko muna

Pero talagang natigalgal ako sa desisyong mag-resign ng isang Manager ko

Ngayon ko lang aaminin na sumama ang loob ko at nasaktan ako

Pakiramdam ko nabalewala ang pagkakaibigan namin

Hindi naman kaila na talagang siya ang gino-groom ko

Pansinin nyo nga’t para ko syang carbon-copy at alter ego

And talagang I was his shield and I protected him like no other

I did my best to keep him from leaving – to no avail

He was bent on moving on to better opportunities

That’s when I stopped talking to him

Kahit nga gaano kaganda nung goodbye letter nya – dinedma ko

Bitter talaga ako to the max – galit nga ako eh

And the worst part – tinabihan pa nya ang branch ko

Kung pinapansin ko sya lately – plastic lang ako

Until I realized na I was acting irrationally

Like a parent, I have to learn to let go when your child marries

That’s when I accepted the reality of losing Dave as an officemate

But our friendship will forever remain

Para akong nabunutan ng tinik ngayon

So Dave, Godspeed and good luck!

Humanda ka’t lalampasuhin kita bilang kakumpetensya!

Good Byes Are Never Easy

When I first learned that my protegee was considering to join another bank, my instant reaction was to panic. The dynamics that happened from that moment onwards is replete with so much drama that a whole television series can be created from it. Good-byes are never easy. My original team in AUB Gensan is now two less people.

Relationships are never permanent. I lost Dwight to Petron; Leah to marriage life and now Manny and Dave to East West Bank. The experience is like losing your own children with the thought that they are off to something better. I have yet to accept losing Dave, whom I have mentored, nurtured and coached. That time will come eventually. I hate to see them go but I wish them a good time. Good luck and God bless you. This song is for you…

A Prayer for Murder Victims’ Families

God of merciful love,

Help these families who are victims of murder

To accept the reality of such senseless acts of violence

Without, at the same time,

Succumbing to the despair of so great a loss.

May this violence become for them, instead,

A steppingstone toward greater union with you.

Teach them the forgiveness that was exemplified

By Jesus as he said,

“Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”

And through his redemptive love,

Show your mercy to the perpetrators of these crimes.

Fill the emptiness of their victim hearts

With the fire of your divine love

So as to transform their losses

Into a healing power

For themselves and for our world.

Remembering Thumby Cadorna

Thumby Cadorna and I were together in my car that turned-turtle four times at 2:14 in the morning of November 1, 1994. We were on our way to Polomolok when my car did its somersault along Apopong that fateful day. Thumby was behind the wheel, without his seatbelt on. I was on the passenger’s side dozing off with my seatbelt tightly tucked. With the force of the impact, Thumby was thrown out of the windshield. He suffered a broken right arm, broken pelvic bone and his skull cracked. Everyone thought he’d die. I didn’t. Thumby came out of coma after over a month. He lost a lot of weight and some of his memory but he was still Thumby, my friend. After our accident he lived his life to the fullest. He was at his peak when he succumbed to a massive heart attack in June 30, 2000. I miss you, my friend. Wherever you are, do hold that bottle of beer for me. And, hey, I have finally learned to live the moment.
