As major contributors of high-quality mapping data to Google in Asia Pacific, the Fat & Fab Brothers were invited to attend the first-ever regional Asia-Pacific Google Geo Community Summit from March 30 to April 1 of this year. This event is an opportunity for the region’s best geo-mappers to meet up, exchange ideas and have a bit of fun.
Both Kuya Avel and I were in the forefront of Mapping Activities (by way of mapping parties) for Google here in Gensan. A Mapping Party is a gathering where you invite your friends who have laptops to a venue with a fast internet connection, and together, with the use of Google Map Maker and aided by an instructor, map out and name your locality’s streets, roads, highways, establishments, housing, etc. In Gensan, the first Mapping Party was conducted last December 29, 2009 at Cafe Amoree. On hand to assist the twenty bloggers was Conrad Miguel Gozalo, a certified-user of Google Map Maker.
The next mapping party sponsored by the SoCCSKSarGen Bloggers was in time for the May 2010 elections. This time around Election Precincts were identified and mapped for Gensan. The Precinct Mapping Party aimed to assist voters in locating their assigned precincts during the elections. It was attended by more than ten bloggers who successfully tagged most of the popular precincts that day. Thanks mainly to Aileen Apolo-de Jesus for supporting this endeavor.
The Summit will happen at the Festive Hotel at the Resort World Sentosa but we will be booked at Hard Rock Hotel in the same resort from March 30 – April 1.
