Read on, faithful readers…

  • Let our Beauty Queens use our National Language sa competition proper.  Fine, sanay tayong umingles. So please lang, managalog ka na Miss Philippines and get yourself an interpreter.

Heads has to roll from the ranks of Binibining Pilipinas Charities!

  • We should consider the timing of our National Search for beauty queens.  With the present set-up there isn’t enough time to train the winners thoroughly. And what’s with this penchant for Pinay-Americans?  I have nothing against them pero ganun na ba tayo ka-desperate at kailangang inglisera ang mga dapat manalo?  Pansinin nyo managalog ang mga yan – nakakalurkey!  Tigilan na ako ng pa-ingles ingles dyan.  I need an interpreter – now na!

The annual Binibining Pilipinas Beauty Pageant is a project of Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Incorporated (BPCI), a non-stock, non-profit organization founded by its chair, Stella Márquez Araneta.  Stella Araneta is a Colombian of Spanish and Polish parentage. She was Miss Colombia in 1959 and was therefore able to compete in the Miss Universe 1960 pageant held in Miami Beach, Florida and the first Miss International beauty pageant held in Long BeachCaliforniaUnited States in 1960. She was the first Latina Miss International.    She married Jorge Araneta, a Filipino businessman. Since 1964, she has been the organizer of Binibining Pilipinas, which sends its winners to the Miss UniverseMiss World, and Miss International competitions.  Araneta has been haunted by controversies and Filipino pageant fans expressed disappointment with the way she has handled the Miss Philippines franchise in recent years.[1] In particular, fans are dissatified with the reusing of gowns and dresses (gowns that are previously worn by past winners) to dress new winners, and as well as for allegedly dethroning winners who do not seem to fit her taste.  (Source:  Wikipedia)

I agree with you about the language. it is about time that we come to love our country by speaking out own language during international pageants and for local naman, they can speak their own dialect. that would really be a big change in beauty pageants.

    Truuee…

Did you know that the BPCI recycles gowns year after year, candidate after candidate? Kawawang tingnan. And this evening wear line they use, Cumbia, isn’t exactly the most stylish brand there is.

I hope they stop doing the traditional Terno Filipina costume… The country is rich with culture… we can go for a lot of more exciting costumes! Remember Ruffa’s golden sarimanok costume? Aileen Damiles’ costume with all the pots on her head was great too!

And yes, I completely agree with getting an interpreter. :-) that’s the latina way of doing it hahahaha!

BPCI needs a lot of updating to do. First step is to get Mdme SMAraneta and Pitoy Moreno out of the system (their taste for queens is classic…but it might not work in this time’s pageant arena anymore).

The founder is not a Filipino born citizen? no wonder……..she’s a spy working for Latin America…a beautiful well paid spy (picture of Evelyn Salt) ..imagine she got to marry Jorge Araneta to complete the camouflage which sad to say is another alien… This is long and big Conspiracy, don’t you think?

@Rain — nakakalurkey ang mga controversies hounding BPCI… ke dami dami naman nilang sponsors na malalaki eh bakit kelangang kuriputin? pero atch disagree ako na di na gamiting ang terno… dyan baya nakilala ang pinas. but i agree na we have such a rich culture para makapag-represent ng magandang national costume…

@Pilar T. Afuang — kaya nga sa local pageant natin, the questions will be read in english, tagalog and cebuano — we will also allow the candidates to answer in the vernacular.

@Orms: I get the point hehehehe

Nanghihinayang lang ako sa cultures of the south natin na hindi narerepresent… and some of our girls don’t look that good in the terno… like Lia Andrea Ramos of 2006. kung lumad ang suot niya nun, bongga pa. hahaha

I am currently admiring Japan’s fresh takes on their National Costumes:

    2006 – Sexy Samurai
    2007 – Temple hooker
    2010 – Malaking pamaypay

Very modern but still rich in their own brand of culture.

I hope the next time they design the terno, they can add a stronger concept to it… kinda like a gold terno de singkil something hehehe.
Charlene Gonzales’ terno was themed pearl of south east asia, and it was good (i still don’t think it deserved the award). If you ask me, I’d love to wear Joanne Santos’ sun-ray costume anytime!

venus answered it fluently naman eh,. ang daming bitter, kawawa naman si venus, ang daming nanghihinayang, somehow its not helping her. we should be proud of her instead. diba nga ang hirap nung question, hindi ka na talaga nun makapag isip, what if her biggest mistake was she had an abortion? or a murderer? haha,
