Tips Para Sa Gagawa Ng Job Application Letter

Author: orman | Filed under: Tips Ever

More often than not siempre sasabihin kong wala – anong akala nyo saken, Department of Labor? Kung meron mang nilagay akong reference at natanggap, so far, wala pang nagpapasalamat.

Anyway, this blog post is not about me.  Ang haba nung introduction na yun, ah!  Marami-rami na din kasi akong friends or acquiantances na kaka-graduate lang and who are unemployed.  I just wanna share kung anong dapat nyong gawin kapag nag-aaply kayo ng trabaho. Read on, faithful readers, you might find this useful.

  1. Presentable ba and Application Letter mo? And in this age of improved technology, please lang huwag nang gumamit ng typewriter for your application letter.  Minsan mali-mali pa ang pagkaka-type.  Kung wala kang computer and laser printer, by all means, go the the nearest computer shop.
  2. Never ever miss the full name of the Addressee – Pinapansin ko din kung tama ang pangalan ko sa letter.  Major major fail if you address your letter to THE MANAGER or to the HUMAN RESOURCE DEPARTMENT.  Hello?!
  3. Kaya Body ang tawag kasi dapat malaman – Sometimes, I skip reading the body of the letter na. MY OWN WORDS talaga.  Ngayon, copy and paste from the internet na ang drama ng karamihan.  Obvious na obvious kaya.  Pero please lang, kung kokopya ka na rin lang, make sure you update the necessary information nang hindi nagkakabukuhan.
  4. Don’t forget to sign your application letter – Super palpak na talaga ang applicant who hands his/her letter without signing it. Kaya always double-check everything before finalizing it.
  5. Choose a recent colored picture – Make sure naman that the picture you enclosed in your application is the more recent.  Huwag yung taken 30-pounds ago.  Avoid black and white pictures.  And don’t just stop na ito ang recent.  Make sure na maganda ang kuha mo.  It should be a formal studio shot, at least 2×2 ang size.  Ako kasi, visual na tao – pag maganda ang nakikita ko, then your letter goes to the top pile but of course, subject to review of the other credentials.  Believe you me, an attractive looking picture usually catches the attention.
  6. Huwag over-acting ang Biodata or Resume – Update, update, update!  Dito ako usually nagbababad to check on the credentials of the applicant.  Make sure na ikaw ang gumawa nyan kasi nakakahiya kung hindi mo masagot ang mga tanong about your resume or biodata.  It is not necessary na lahat ng mga seminars that you’ve attended eh ilagay.  Choose the ones that has any relation to the job you’re applying for.  And please lang huwag nang isali ang mga certificate of attendance na natanggap mo ha.  I have enough toilet paper.
  7. Use POWERFUL references – For me, nakaka-attract ng attention ang mga well-known personalities na nakalagay as your reference. Just imagine kung idi-deny ka in the future.  Nakakahiya!  And please lang iwasang kamag-anak mo ang reference mo.  Minus point agad yan.
  8. Packaging, baby! – Importante talaga ang presentation.  Dati, we choose the best envelope – yung maputing-maputi at makapal. Job-seekers now use the clear folder.  Okay naman yan but to keep it formal, don’t use a colored folder.

Now you’re ready.  Either you mail your application letter (and biodata) or you personally deliver it.  If you mail it, use a trustworthy courier service.  Then follow up mo after five days.  The good thing about delivering it yourself, you immediately get an appointment for interview or baka interview portion ka na agad.  That’s why kailangang pustura ka na ever when delivering your letter.

Babush nalang to that company. It’s their loss di nila ako tinanggap. ahahaha bitter-bitteran ba ang drama. LOLz

and be sure to answer the “why”..why are you here or why are we going to hire you…its funny how so many people apply for a job, submit their application, and really do not know why are they doing it anyway…like “sir, i need a job??”

These tips come straight from an authority who really hires so they’re very credible. I actually use all of these when I get invited as a speaker on Job Hunting. Just an additional point. If you’re applying for a job especially online or via email, see to it that your cover letter catches the hiring officers’ attention and really impresses them otherwise they won’t have any drive to open your attached resume no matter how impressive it is. For example, if they see any grammatical errors, they get turned off right away. So have it checked by experts as much as possible before you hand it in.
I applied via Internet in my present position and I was told that there were over 200 applicants who sent their resume via email. They shortlisted only the top 10 for interview. See how tough the competition in the jobmarket is? So write effective cover letter and resume that will hook the Hiring Officer to lead you to an interview.

May nakalimutan ako, Ormz. By impressive cover letter, I mean, hindi lang about grammar. See to it na hindi yong laman ng resume mo ay siya rin ang nasa cover letter mo. The cover letter is actually the icing of the cake. It is where you can elaborate more about yourself in paragraph forms contrary to the usual bullet points in resume. Remember you are selling yourself when you’re applying for a job so you must convince the HO how different you are from the rest of the applicants that you should be chosen.
