Eleven couples will vie for the crown in this year’s Lakan at Lakambini ng Kalilangan pageant. Surprisingly, there were more male contestants than female during the Screening Show last February 7, 2010. Unlike other known pageants in the city, the elimination show was subdued and without the swimsuit round. Apparently, the organizers wanted this competition to be the ULTIMATE TALENT SEARCH in Gensan.
Emcees DJ Mario Valentino and Miss Gensan 2006 Rean Acosta made the event worth watching. Despite a slow start, the show eventually progressed smoothly. This year’s crop of hopefuls is a mixture of hits and misses. As expected, nervousness caused most of them to stammer thus missing their opportunity to shine during the interview. Those who breeze through the Question and Answer portion ended at the top of the heap. Now, that’s confidence with a capital “C.”
The Talent Portion was a mishmash of creativity and a joke. Good thing we had Media Affairs Consultant Avel Manansala, Miss Gensan 2008 Romarie Ivy Cunanan and Assistant City Administrator Glenville Gonzalez as judges. Their choices were the cream of the crop. The twenty-two hopefuls not only survived the “brutal” questions thrown at them by the judges – they also showed brawn with their talent presentation. And luckily for the ladies, all eleven of them made the grade as Lakambini finalists. Out of the 20 guys, only eleven of them were chosen.
