Memory Recall: Ding How Dimsum

Author: orman | Filed under: Food Ever

1982 yata noon

Iskolar ako sa MSU-Marawi Campus

Si Kuya Avel naman iskolar sa UP Cebu

Pareho kaming malayo sa Gensan

Kahit short kami sa budget

Pinapunta nya ako nun sa Cebu

One of my best memories during that visit

Was dining at Ding How Dimsum

Naalala ko pa na we had to ride an elevator

To get to the top floor where Dimsum was

Kasi nga short sa budget

Nagusap na kami ni Kuya Avel kung anong oorderin

Tig-iisang Steamed Rice kami

Isang order ng spring roll or fried lumpia

Isang order ng siomai

And I think we shared one glass of coke

Ansaya-saya ko na nun

Since then adik talaga ng dimsum

Andami ko nang nakainang dimsum

But nothing compares to Ding How Dimsum

Last year, I made it a point to try them out again

I was in Cebu for a brief assignment

Lumipat na pala sila sa Colon Street

Excited talaga ako

Unfortunately I was disappointed

Hindi na kasin-sarap ng dati

And parang nawala na yung novelty nila

My fond memories of Dinghow Dimsum

Will remain that way – just FOND MEMORIES

Well, until I discovered them in Davao City

Ding How Dimsum is along Mapa Street

Sa tingin ko this used to be a residential house

Very cozy ang atmosphere

When I was handed the menu book

Nag-memory recall talaga ako

I saw all the familiar images

Steamed rice ever so much!

Spring Roll to the highest heavens!

Siomai, mommy!

Daw sa mabuang ko bah!

Have you ever felt that kind of rush?

Yun bang all the fond memories just come rushing back to you?

Naalala ko tuloy na uber kami sa tipid ni Kuya Avel noon

But this time since I can afford it

Order ako to the max

Pig out talaga kami nina Dave and Peter

It was one of my “bestest” lunch

And I am recommending that you visit

This unassuming restaurant along Mapa Street

Fast service na and very affordable pa ang presyo

And siempre ang importante

Nakuha nila ang original na sarap

Sarap na nareremember ko during my college days

Memory recall.

Memory restored.

The first time I tried them here in Davao, I was utterly disappointed.

But knowing how I can never go wrong basta si Ganda Ever ang nagrecommend, I’ll give them a try again this week.

Nagutom ako just by looking at the pics.

nice post!!! steamed fried rice pud ang akong gipangita diri sa cebu pag-abot nako diri 4+ years ago… they have a couple of “brands” na kumbaga… ang dimsum na fastfood set-up is named, “dimsum break”; ang dimsum na naa sa mall is named, “harbour city”, and there’s one offering an eat-all-you-can buffet (nga makalipong after ka makakaon ug hastang daghana) – ding qua qua in jy square mall… these dimsums are all over cebu, and a resto that cebu can call it’s very own, fromt eh timple to the menu… there are a lot of restaurants that offer the steamed fried rice, pero wala’y ka-match ang steamed fried rice sa ding how… and yes, KUYA AVEL, i still owe you a couple of bowls of steamed fried rice… cheers!!!
