Stop Stressing. Start Living.

Pag tinatanong ako kung anong sikreto para maging successful sa career mo palagi kong sinasagot na dapat mahalin mo ang trabaho mo.  Obvious naman na kapag mahal mo ang trabaho mo, you always give your best at what you do and really strive hard to deliver what is expected of you.  Darating ka din sa puntong you want to exceed expectations.  Ang mga mabuti mong ginagawa ay siempre mapapansin ng mga boss mo.  Kung hindi man sila mismo ang makakapansin, malamang mapapansin ka ng mga malapit sa bosing mo.

Sa tagal na ng panahon na nagtatrabaho ako na-obserbahan ko din na may mga taong nagtatrabaho beyond eight hours a day.  Siempre may mga pagkakataon na kailangang mag-overtime but this should come long and far between.  Kasi minsan inaabuso din ang pag-oovertime kasi nga I wonder if people are really working all these hours or baka gusto lang kumita from doing “overtime” work.  Kaya naging metikuluso ang mga supervisors ngayon.  Hindi na basta-bastang inaaprubahan ang requests to work long hours.

But I do know of some people who put in long office hours because they are addicted to the workplace. Kung anuman ang rason nila for staying late and and working long hours, dapat maintindihan nila na they are not doing themselves and the organization any good.  Working long hours in the long term is harmful to the employee and the company.  Obviously, anybody who has less sleep are cranky the next day and are prone to committing mistakes.  Eh di lalo lang nadagdagan ang trabaho nila by correcting the mistakes they make.  Minsan damay pa ang kaopisina nila in correcting these mistakes.  Di lalo ka lang na-stress at damay pa ang ibang tao!

Kung inaakala nyo na magiging bida kayo sa mata ng boss nyo because you work long hours, well, think again.  There are better ways to impress your boss and working late is not one of them.  Pansinin nyo ang mga taong palaging late nang umuwi from work.  Sila yung mga taong masusungit, madaling mairita at mahirap pakisamahan.  Just imagine kung majority ng mga kaopisina mo ay ganito – eh di sira na ang kamada!

Kung ikaw ang  bosing o supervisor, heto ang mga pwede nyong gawin para maenganyo nyong umuwi after office hours ang mga kasamahan nyo.  Siempre, you have to lead by example.  But be aware na hindi dahil umuuwi ka ng maaga, pwede ka nang magpadala ng emails to your team during wee hours in the morning even on weekends.  Minsan guilty ako ng ganito until I realized that I’m stressing out my team!  Umuwi ka right after work but put some balance in your own life too.  You not only gain credibility sa mata ng teammates mo, you also gain self-respect.  Anyway, subukan nyo ang prosesong ito:

  1. Gumising ng maaga.  Take a bath.
  2. Eat a hearty breakfast.
  3. Go to work on time.
  4. When at the workplace, work hard – work smart.
  5. Take a break and use your coffee break time.
  6. Put in a good eight hours of work.
  7. Go home.
  8. Enjoy quality time with your family.
  9. Do something relaxing.  Watch a comedy show on TV.  Read the comics section of the daily paper.
  10. Eat well – but do not over-eat.
  11. Get a restful sleep.

Mapapansin nyo na para magawa nyo ng mabuti ang Step #4 kailangang gawin nyo ang iba pang steps.  Subukan nyo ito and you will discover a big change.  You don’t have to enslave yourself and work like a dog to be successful.  Working regular hours and enjoying it brings better benefits to your health and to your company.  You become a better worker because you’re not cranky at all – enjoy mo lang ang trabaho.  Bawal ma-stress.  So take a nap when it’s nap time.  Then you regain the energy you need for the workplace.

In the meantime, continue to love what you do.  Love your work but never fall in love with your company because you’ll never know when your company will stop loving you.  Build credibility and you will eventually harvest the fruits of your hard work.
