I couldn’t resist not having a picture taken together with Atty. Adel Tamano. He’s one of the speakers of the 3rd Mindanao Bloggers’ Summit here in Cagayan de Oro City. He shared three main reasons on what leadership is. Leadership is empathy. In order to lead you must empathize with those you lead. Leadership must be visionary—meaning that a leader must see possibilities beyond what others see. Leadership is anti-corruption, which for him is important as leaders must lead by GOOD example. Atty. Adel is the first Filipino Muslim scholar to the Harvard Law School and he considers this as the singular yet humbling honor that he cherishes dearly in his heart. He became known when he was chosen as the spokesman of the opposition. His articulate manner of handling issues was enough reason for many Filipinos to give him a second look. Here was Senator Mamintal Tamano’s son, speaking unlike the see-saw english of his father. And the guy is a looker, for heaven’s sake. And so the path to fame became fast for the young and handsome lawyer. His successes as President of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila may not be front page news material but they are running around the news circuit. Even Vicki Belo got so smitten that she hired his services for the Hayden Kho scandal. Atty. Adel, outrightly dismisses the rumor that they are playing sweet music together. He proudly said that he is happily married. Well, his presence at the MBS 3 made up for all the pagod and puyat that I had to endure just to be here. And the best part is that I had a kodak moment with him. He even asked me what I do for a living and when I said I work for Asia United Bank, he blurted out: AUB! You got my vote, Senator Adel!
