Our friend and fellow blogger Gay Carrillo invited us to a get-together at her La Cassandra abode last October 16.  Well, the real reason was that Gay finally bought a sala set and that was worth celebrating.  As a sofa-warming gift, I gave her a lamp-shade made out of durian pulp.  As I’ve mentioned, this was supposed to be a sofa-warming party.  But when Gay started bringing the food out, I completely ignored the sofa-set and took pictures of the food instead.  Kaloka!  Who could resist Gay’s cooking?  Check these out…

I’m a palabok addict.  I’m not much into the Italian pasta-thingy.  But when I took a small serving, I just had to come back for more.  Ansarap talaga!  So even if Gay changed her mind about joining us to the MBS 3, I still love her for cooking a mean pasta dinner.

The closest thing to a tuna burger for me is a quick visit to Genee’s – they serve the best tuna burger in Gensan.  Well, until I tried Gay’s version.  Mouth-watering is such an understatement.  I couldn’t wait to take a bite.  Kuya Avel’s prayer before meals seemed like eternity.  When I finally tasted it, it was like heaven on earth.  It was juicy and succulent.  Hindi ko nalasahan ang tuna – which makes it a perfect meal.

Now I’m a firm believer that tofu is good for the health.  Well, I got an overdose of tofu with Gay’s stir-fried vegetables with a whole caboodle of tofu in it.  This was one healthy meal that I would recommend.  The tofu was a perfect replacement for meat. Great stuff here.

Gay was supposed to prepare tuna salpicao but she ran out of worcestershire sauce.  Teriyaki sauce to the rescue!  This only goes to show that tuna as food can really be versatile.  The funny thing was that I feasted on it thinking it was beef teppanyaki.  How ignorant could I be?

I read all about this on Gay’s blog site.  She used the poor man’s fish, burot (round scad) and simmered it for several hours.  I’m a great fan of spanish sardines and woo to me for “snobbing” it.  I was already too full when I saw the serving still untouched.  My oh my — I could have enjoyed the night with just this viand.  Gay has a winner in this one.

And so as the night progressed, we had a great time sharing stories and planning our next get-together.  Blogging has indeed expanded my horizons.  Meeting friends like a Scientist in the Kitchen is one of the perks of blogging.  Blog on, Gay!
