The Flea Market during the Tuna Festival was a blast! Ready-to-wear (RTW) items has taken the back seat. The Ukay-Ukay (U2) traders reigned supreme during the two-weeks run of the Flea Market. If you’re a keen observer, U2 Shops have become the common man’s Duty Free Centers. One just needs to be patient while shopping – you might find a good pair of imported Guess jeans, a DKNY blouse or a good imitation of a Louis Vitton bag. U2 has become so popular that small stores have been sprouting around the city. U2 business has been brisk. During the times that I rummage through the U2 bagsakan at the Public Market, it’s like KCC Mall’s midnight sale. Not even the swine flu virus scare has stopped the avid U2 shoppers. Surprisingly, I’ve seen some well-dressed individuals doing their own rummaging at the U2 Kingdom at the Oval Plaza two weeks ago. That’s being practical with the capital P! Anyway, there’s a move to tax the U2 industry at the least. Apparently, its sudden popularity has been hurting our Textile industry. The more rabid U2 oppositors are asking for blood. They want the U2 trade banned in the Philippines. Oh well, in the meantime I will just enjoy my bargain hunting. Happy ukay-ukay shopping!
