I’m also reviving my regular column here on a weekly basis. As in the past, I will be covering anything under the sun. Most of the topics will be brief but it can grow to a separate blog post. Read on…

GTX 2009. After a three-year hiatus, I’m once again at the helm of Gensan’s most popular festival – Gensan’s Tuna Festival Experience. The first order of the day was setting the direction of the festival based on the vision of the mayor. With the recent debacles the Tuna Industry is undergoing, setting our sights on the other industries was the practical thing to do. There is more to Gensan than just the Tuna industry. Thus the theme EXPLORING LIMITLESS POSSIBILITIES.

-ooOoo-
RELENTLESS SPIRIT. Despite the economic woes, the mayor believes that the same relentless spirit shown by the Generals during the heydays of the Tuna Industry will guide us through the storm. The agri-sector is waiting to be explored while the tourism industry is getting more and more interesting. We share Mayor Jun Acharon’s belief in the Generals and this year’s festival pays tribute to the men and women of Gensan as we present a more compact and more exciting fiesta this time around.

MAGANDANG GENSAN. My ring tone is the the new Magandang Gensan jingle. Egai Cadiente topped himself with this recent project. The tune is hip and vibrant. Like a cold virus, it’s catching but you’d be happy to get one. The marketing collaterals are indeed eye-catching. The videos are an interesting bunch too. There’s room for improvement but for the time being, they deserve a pat in the back for a job well done.

THE MOVIES IN MY MIND. The last movies I saw on the big screen were Ice Age 3 and Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince. I enjoyed both albeit on different levels. Ice Age’s take on the jurassic era was a blast. The new characters lead by Buck, a swashbuckling one-eyed weasel set the tone for this latest edition. Its fast-paced story telling only gets dragged by the newest love team, Scrat and Scratte. But all in all, Ice Age 3 gets my nod. Harry Potter on the other hand is surprisingly easy to follow this time around. Maybe it helped that I didn’t read the book. This edition could disappoint the purists but it’s still worth watching.
