What’s in store for us in the coming days?  Aside from the scheduled nightly events at the Oval Plaza Stage and the Oval Covered Court (now PBA Sports Arena), two of Manila’s hot bands are expected to grace our festivities.  We’re keeping our fingers crossed and we are hopeful that plans doesn’t change. 

On September 4 at 9:00 in the evening, Smart Communications presents KAMIKAZEE at the Oval Plaza Stage.  The band is composed of five members who met in college at the College of Fine Arts of the University of the Philippines Diliman. Kamikazee’s early gigs were mostly campus events in UP Diliman like the annual UP Fair. Before they were signed, they went by the name “Kamikazee Cornflakes”, which was eventually shortened to its current state as “Kamikazee” was easier to remember.

Globe Telecom, on the other hand, will present the rock band SLAPSHOCK on September 5 at the same venue.   Slapshock was formed by five musicians on February 1997 in University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. They started as a rap-metal group which later developed to a more diverse rock band. Most of the early gigs were college sponsored events, fairs and also some club gigs like Club Dredd and Mayric’s which are the pinoneer rock clubs in Manila. The band was signed in 1998, when rap-metal was a hit in the U.S as well as in the Phippines. Slapshock pioneered that genre here, delivering high intensity performances always giving their audiences not just entertainment but an experience worth remembering.
